       St. Louis is a Mississippi river town, and as such it benefited from the same African American diaspora out of the south in the first half of the twentieth century.  If you go to St. Louis, you will hear about the blues, and jazz, ad nauseum.  But St. Louis also has a cool indie record store- Apop Records. We are very pleased that they are carrying the Reading Rainbow Restless 7", and they are also one of the very few stores in the entire nation that has advanced copies of the Beaters White Hate 7" in their shop.  You can't find that record in New York or Los Angeles, but in St. Louis, yes.

     You know what's funny about the music industry?  It's like they don't even care about selling music anymore.  Oh sure, they get stoked about an appearance on the Gossip Girls or having a song placed in a Cadillac ad, but when it comes to actual record stores- they couldn't care less.  Isn't that strange?

    At Zoo Music we pretty much only care about record shops.  Not just the ones in Echo Park and Park Slope- but the shops in places like Oklahoma City... like Guest Room Records.  Guest Room has two locations, one in Oklahoma City and the other in Norman Oklahoma.

  Oklahoma City just took the Supersonics from Seattle, so you know it's a city on the rise (even if the team is bad ha ha.)  The University of Oklahoma is located in nearby Norman.  Oklahoma City even has it's own gay newspaper called the "Gayly Oklahoman." How cool is that?

  Guest Room Records has the Reading Rainbow 7" in stock  and I also think they got some of the Art Fag Split 7" w/ Crocodiles, Dum Dum Girls, PENS and Graffiti Island- that's a very hard to find record.  I wonder which store it will be at?

      We try not to be "that way" about blogs and blogging, but it's appropriate to spot light some of the fine shops that are carrying our product.  We encourage our readers to patronize independent record shops.


      Love Garden sounds in Lawrence Kansas has been around for almost 20 years.  Last year, they moved from their old location to a new (better?) location- but the old locations remains as a liquidation spot- I believe that's the old spot pictured above.


      Lawrence Kansas is home to the University of Kansas.  Many coastal residents know it as the long time residence of William S. Burroughs.  I've personally talked to many former students who compare Lawrence favorably to other Midwestern university towns like... Madison, Wisconsin or Ann Arbor Michigan.


     And, it should be noted that they sold some Art Fag Recordings Best Coast records faster then any store anyplace else.  They are currently stocking Zoo Music 004- Reading Rainbow Restless 7" and will be carrying the Woven Bones Minus Touch EP clear vinyl repress early next year.  Also- a little birdie told me that they have 10 of the very, very, rare Art Fag Recordings Split 7" featuring the Dum Dum Girls, Crocodiles, PENS & Graffiti Island- so if you want one of those send them an email before they get sold out in the next 48 hours.
